God Bless Dancougar

God Bless Dancougar was released in 1987 as a concluding OVA for the Super Beast Machine God Dancougar television series, which had aired throughout 1985. Produced by Ashi Productions, this installment was intended to provide a definitive resolution to the narrative arc of the pilot team, who operated the complex, multi-component Dancougar robot. The project emerged during the peak of the original video animation boom, allowing the studio to utilize higher production values than the constrained schedule of the original television broadcast had permitted.

The character and mechanical designs remained consistent with the vision established by series director Seiji Okuda and mechanical designer Masahiro Obari. Obari’s signature style, characterized by exaggerated, sleek, and highly dynamic mecha aesthetics, defined the visual identity of the project. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received by fans of the original series who sought a more polished and emotionally conclusive finale, cementing the Dancougar unit as an enduring icon of 1980s super robot animation.
