Where it came from
Gods' Games We Play, known in Japan as Kami wa Game ni Ueteiru, is a 2024 television anime series produced by studio Liden Films under the KADOKAWA banner. The series is adapted from the light novel sequence written by Kei Sazane and illustrated by Toiro Tomose, which began serialization in 2021. The narrative originates from the popular fantasy subgenre of 'death games' involving high-stakes intellectual challenges, focusing on a battle of wits between humanity and bored deities.
The design and production were conceptualized to translate Toiro Tomose’s intricate, vibrant character illustrations into a fluid animation format. The series focuses on Fay, a former god-slayer, and Leoleshea, a former goddess, as they challenge divine entities in various logic-based games. Upon its release, the adaptation was positioned by KADOKAWA as a central entry in their seasonal lineup, aiming to capture audiences interested in strategic psychological thrillers and supernatural lore.
