The high-stakes search for gold continues in the harsh wilderness of Hokkaido! More and more people seek the treasure map, and the race to find its living pieces is brutal as all get-out. War veteran Sugimoto and his guide to the wilds, Asirpa, are hot on the trail, and as long as they stick together through thick and thin—chitatap and miso—they’ve got a shot at finding that gold.

Where it came from
Golden Kamuy Season 2 was released in 2018 as a direct continuation of the anime adaptation of Satoru Noda’s celebrated manga series. Produced by Geno Studio, this season maintains the unique blend of survival adventure, Ainu cultural history, and dark humor that defined the initial installment. The production team aimed to capture the gritty, atmospheric tension of Hokkaido in the early 20th century while balancing complex character dynamics, particularly the evolving bond between Saichi Sugimoto and the young Ainu girl, Asirpa.
The season was directed by Hitoshi Nanba, who worked to refine the series' visual identity, integrating 3D elements for vehicles and wilderness environments while staying faithful to Noda’s distinct character designs. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences and critics for its faithful narrative progression and its commitment to exploring the nuanced historical context of the post-Russo-Japanese War era, successfully expanding the high-stakes treasure hunt narrative established in the first season.
