Gravion Zwei

Gravion Zwei was produced by Studio GONZO and released in 2004 as the direct television sequel to the 2002 series Gravion. It continues the narrative of a group of pilots operating the Earth Gaiser and the titular Gravion robot to defend the planet against an extraterrestrial threat known as the Zehraknight. The series was directed by Masami Obari, a veteran animator known for his distinctive mechanical design aesthetic and action-oriented direction, which remained the central stylistic pillar for this follow-up.

The design philosophy behind Gravion Zwei emphasized the super robot tropes of the 1970s and 80s, updated for a modern early-2000s audience. Obari aimed to integrate complex character dynamics with high-energy combat sequences, a signature approach that often resulted in a blend of intense mecha action and fan-service-heavy character interactions. Upon its release, the series was received primarily by the dedicated mecha anime audience of the time, who recognized it as a stylistic expansion of the previous season's established tropes and visual identity.
