Grisaia: Phantom Trigger

Grisaia: Phantom Trigger transitioned from its origins as a visual novel series developed by Frontwing into a television anime production helmed by Bibury Animation Studios in 2025. Following a series of theatrical releases that began in 2019, this television adaptation was crafted to provide a definitive serialized narrative of the Mihama Academy students' tactical missions. The studio, founded by producer Tensho, sought to maintain the visual fidelity of original character designer Akio Watanabe while streamlining the complex plot beats for a broader broadcast audience.

The production reflects the evolution of the Grisaia franchise, moving away from the expansive, branching storytelling of the original trilogy toward a more focused, action-oriented tactical drama. Akio Watanabe’s signature art style remains a core pillar of the design, known for its distinct character silhouettes and expressive facial work. Upon release, the series was received as a continuation of the brand's long-standing appeal, balancing dark character backstories with the high-stakes military-school aesthetic that has defined the series since its inception in 2011.
