Growth Factor

Growth Factor was produced in 2014 by Geidai Animation, an initiative originating from the Tokyo University of the Arts. The project serves as a showcase for the institution's graduate animation program, which emphasizes traditional craftsmanship alongside experimental digital techniques. This short film reflects the collaborative spirit of the department, where students often work in concert with established industry mentors to bridge the gap between academic exploration and professional output.

The creative direction for the film is characterized by the distinct aesthetic sensibilities fostered at Geidai, which often prioritizes evocative visual storytelling over traditional narrative structures. By focusing on themes of transition and maturation, the animators utilized refined motion studies to explore their central subject. Upon its release, the film was noted within independent animation circuits for its technical precision and the maturity of its visual execution, marking it as a significant example of early 2010s student-led production.
