Shuu's entire world was shattered after a meteorite crashed into Japan, unleashing the lethal Apocalypse Virus. The chaos and anarchy born of the outbreak cost Shuu his family and reduced him to a timid, fearful shell of the boy he'd once been. His life took another unexpected turn after a chance encounter with the stunning pop star, Inori. This mysterious beauty introduced Shuu to the King's Right Hand: a genetic mutation that allows him to reach into hearts of mortals and turn them into weapons.
Shuu finds himself caught in the crossfire between those who desperately seek his newfound strength. On one side lurks a clandestine government agency, and on the other, Inori and the spirited band of rebels known as Funeral Parlor. The choice is Shuu's to make - and the world is his to change.

Where it came from
Guilty Crown was produced by the renowned animation studio Production I.G and directed by Tetsurō Araki, premiering in late 2011. The series was conceived as a high-concept original project intended to showcase the studio's technical prowess, blending a dystopian narrative with themes of power and social fragmentation. It emerged during a period of experimentation within the industry, aiming to deliver a visually striking experience that relied heavily on advanced digital compositing and an atmospheric score by composer Hiroyuki Sawano.
The show's aesthetic, which featured character designs by redjuice, was highly praised for its meticulous detail and vibrant color palettes. While the visual direction and music received widespread acclaim for their polish and ambition, the narrative approach was polarizing among critics and audiences. Despite the mixed reception to its complex, fast-paced plot, the series remains a significant example of early 2010s 'event' anime, recognized primarily for its production values and its influence on later multimedia storytelling projects.
