GUNbare! Game Tengoku: THE GAME PARADISE 2

GUNbare! Game Tengoku: THE GAME PARADISE 2 is a two-episode original video animation (OVA) series released in 1998, produced by Studio Daume. It serves as a direct follow-up to the 1997 OVA series, which was itself based on the cult-classic Jaleco arcade shoot-'em-up titled The Game Paradise. The project emerged during the mid-to-late 1990s anime trend of adapting obscure arcade titles into high-energy, comedic narratives that leaned heavily into meta-humor and gaming culture references.

The series was designed to expand upon the surreal premise of a game world that has become self-aware, blending elements of the shooter genre with character-driven slapstick. Featuring character designs by Tatsuya Oka, the animation sought to maintain the whimsical and frenetic aesthetic established in the previous installments. While it remains a niche entry within the archives of 1990s OVA culture, it is regarded by fans of the genre as a sincere, if lighthearted, reflection of the golden era of Japanese arcade gaming and the idiosyncratic nature of late-nineties fan-service animation.
