Where it came from
Gundam Build Metaverse was released in 2023 as a three-episode original net animation to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Gundam Build series. Produced by Sotsu and Sunrise, the series was designed to bridge the gap between the franchise's long-standing model kit hobbyists and the burgeoning digital metaverse platforms, depicting a virtual space where players can pilot their custom Gunpla in immersive combat simulations.
The creative direction focused on synthesizing decades of Gundam lore, featuring cameos from legacy protagonists and their respective mobile suits. The animation style utilizes modern digital techniques to emphasize the customizable nature of the Gunpla, aiming to reflect the actual building and modifying process of fans. Upon release, it was received as a celebratory tribute to the community’s creative efforts, serving both as a narrative expansion and a showcase for the latest high-grade model kit releases.
