Where it came from
Gundam Build Fighters Try: Island Wars was produced by Sunrise as a special feature-length episode released in 2016. It serves as a narrative bridge following the conclusion of the Gundam Build Fighters Try television series, shifting the tone toward a tropical, experimental excursion for the protagonists. The production was intended to showcase new Gunpla variations and provide a lighthearted conclusion to the arc established by the Try Fighters team.
The project retains the core creative DNA of the Build Fighters franchise, emphasizing the hobby of Gunpla building and battling. While it features the recurring design aesthetic established by Kenichi Yoshida and the series' animation team, Island Wars is noted for its departure from the high-stakes tournament format of its predecessors, focusing instead on an island research facility setting. It was received as a fan-focused epilogue that prioritized character interactions and technical animation displays over tournament progression.
