Where it came from
Hackadoll the Animation was produced by the studio Creators in Pack and released in 2015 as a short-form television series. It serves as an adaptation of a personalized news curation app developed by DeNA, which used anthropomorphic artificial intelligence mascots to engage users. The anime was designed to expand the franchise's brand identity, utilizing a comedic, fast-paced format to bridge the gap between the app's utility and the consumer's entertainment habits.
The character designs and visual direction were crafted to maintain the aesthetic established by the original app developers, emphasizing vibrant, high-energy visuals consistent with late-night Japanese anime trends. The series was received primarily as a promotional vehicle for the mobile application, noted for its meta-humor and its ability to condense complex tech-culture references into brief, digestible episodes that resonated with a niche audience of digital-savvy viewers.
