HAKYU HOSHIN ENGI: The Blood of the Koh Family

Hakyū Hōshin Engi: The Blood of the Koh Family serves as a supplemental OVA to the 2018 television series adaptation of Ryu Fujisaki’s classic manga series. Produced by C-Station, the project was intended to cover key narrative arcs that were condensed or omitted during the main broadcast's run, providing fans with a more faithful representation of specific character dynamics. The production reflects the studio's attempt to bridge the gap between the stylized aesthetics of the original manga and the modern digital animation techniques required for contemporary television.

The design and animation direction for this release sought to capture the high-energy, mythologically-inspired visuals that defined the franchise in the late 1990s. While the series was met with mixed critical reception due to the intense pacing and significant departures from the manga's expansive storyline, the OVA is regarded as a niche piece of media aimed specifically at collectors and long-term devotees of the Hōshin Engi universe who wished to see the Koh family arc receive its own dedicated screen time.
