Where it came from
Hamatora was developed as a multimedia project, launching in 2014 with an anime series produced by studio NAZ, accompanied by a manga series in Shonen Jump Plus. The concept centers on 'Minimum Holders,' individuals born with supernatural abilities, operating out of a detective agency in Yokohama. This project was conceived as a character-driven narrative designed to balance urban mystery with stylized, high-energy action sequences.
The aesthetic of the series, characterized by its vibrant color palettes and distinct costume designs, was overseen by character designer Yuuki Kodama. The studio's intent was to capture a modern, edgy atmosphere that resonated with fans of the supernatural-thriller genre. While the series received mixed reviews regarding its narrative pacing, it remains recognized for its unique visual identity and ambitious cross-media release strategy.
