Hamtaro: Hamtaro's Birthday! - 3000 Hammy Steps in Search of Mommy

Hamtaro: Hamtaro's Birthday! - 3000 Hammy Steps in Search of Mommy was produced in 2002 by Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions as an original video animation tied to the globally successful Hamtaro franchise. Based on the manga series by Ritsuko Kawai, the project was developed to capitalize on the peak popularity of the hamster-themed characters, which originated in magazines before expanding into a sprawling multimedia empire of anime, video games, and merchandising during the early 2000s.

The animation reflects the aesthetic established by the television series, emphasizing a bright, cheerful visual style intended to appeal to a younger demographic. Created in the wake of the show's transition from Japanese broadcast to international syndication, this short feature maintains the franchise's focus on themes of friendship and small-scale adventures. It remains a representative example of the studio's output during the period when Hamtaro was a fixture of Saturday morning programming across multiple global markets.
