Things are kind of crappy right now. In Japanese, we say “hanakuso (nose snot)” instead of crap, though. Here’s a dose of hope and giggles.

Where it came from
HA・NA・KU・SO was produced by the students of the Tokyo University of the Arts, known as Geidai, within their prestigious animation department. This short film emerged from a program that emphasizes experimental techniques and the distinct artistic vision of its creators, serving as a platform for emerging animators to push the boundaries of traditional storytelling and visual expression.
The film is emblematic of the Geidai style, which often prioritizes idiosyncratic character design and unconventional narrative structures over commercial appeal. By focusing on abstract concepts or mundane observations transformed into animation, the work functions as a study in aesthetic exploration, intended more for festival circuits and academic appreciation than for mainstream cinematic distribution.
