Mizuki Ashiya is back for another year of posing as a boy at a male boarding school for one noble reason: to meet her idol, Sano. Only now, Sano’s in on her secret–and keeping it to himself–which makes matters more complicated when Nakatsu develops a crush on Mizuki! Between school trips, dances, and even a model scouting, the trio navigates the blurring lines of friendship and love.

Where it came from
Hana-Kimi Season 2, released as an ONA by studio Signal.MD in 2026, serves as a contemporary continuation of the classic shojo manga series by Hisaya Nakajo. The production was developed to revitalize the beloved story of Mizuki Ashiya for a new generation, shifting from the traditional television broadcast model to a streaming-first format that allows for tighter pacing and modern animation sensibilities.
The character designs and visual direction for this iteration aim to bridge the gap between the nostalgic aesthetic of the early 2000s and current industry standards for digital animation. By utilizing Signal.MD’s signature fluid movement, the creative team sought to emphasize the emotional intimacy of the source material's central relationships. Upon its release, the project was met with steady interest from long-time fans of the original manga who appreciated the production's commitment to the source's core identity.
