Handyman Saitou in Another World

Handyman Saitou in Another World originated as a Japanese web manga series written and illustrated by Kazutomo Ichitomo, which began serialization on the Pixiv platform in 2018. The narrative subverts the traditional isekai fantasy genre by centering on an unremarkable protagonist who utilizes his practical, mundane skills as a handyman to support a party of specialized adventurers. The story was adapted into a twelve-episode television anime series by studio C2C, which premiered in early 2023 under the production of KADOKAWA.

The animation direction by Toshiyuki Kubooka focused on balancing the series' characteristic blend of episodic humor, melancholic character backstories, and grounded action sequences. Unlike many high-fantasy iterations, the design philosophy emphasized the utility and wear-and-tear of adventuring gear, reflecting Saitou's role as a maintainer. The series was well-received by audiences for its departure from standard power-fantasy tropes, focusing instead on the camaraderie and shared vulnerabilities of its diverse cast of adventurers.
