HANEBADO!

Hanebado! is a 2018 television anime series produced by the studio LIDENFILMS, based on the manga series written and illustrated by Kosuke Hamada. The narrative centers on Ayano Hanesaki, a high school student with a complex past involving professional badminton, and her tumultuous relationship with her teammate Nagisa Aragaki. It emerged during a period of increased interest in high-energy sports anime, though it differentiated itself by focusing heavily on the psychological burdens and internal conflicts of its characters rather than solely on the mechanics of the sport.

The production is notable for its ambitious animation style, particularly the high-frame-rate sequences designed to capture the kinetic intensity of competitive badminton. Under the direction of Shinpei Ezaki, the creative team aimed to portray the sport with technical accuracy while heightening the dramatic emotional stakes. Upon release, the series received polarized reception; while the technical quality of the animation was widely praised for its fluidity and visual impact, some viewers criticized the character portrayals for deviating from the tone of the original source material.
