Harmony

Harmony is a 2015 animated science fiction film produced by Studio 4°C as part of the Project Itoh trilogy. Adapted from the late novelist Project Itoh’s final completed work, the film explores a post-apocalyptic future where society has shifted toward extreme health consciousness and communal management through a pervasive system known as Admon. The production sought to translate the novel’s dense philosophical inquiries into a visual medium, focusing on the tension between individual consciousness and a mandated, conflict-free existence.

Director Takashi Nakamura utilized a sophisticated blend of traditional hand-drawn aesthetics and digital integration to emphasize the sterile, oppressive nature of the film's world. The design process focused on stark, minimalist architectures and characters that reflect the psychological erosion caused by the narrative's central surveillance technology. Upon its release, it was recognized for its intellectual ambition and distinct visual style, securing its place as a notable entry in contemporary Japanese speculative animation.
