Where it came from
Haruchika: Haruta & Chika is a 2016 television anime series produced by P.A.Works, adapted from the mystery novel series written by Sei Hatsuno. The series follows childhood friends Haruta and Chika as they attempt to save their high school's failing wind instrument club by solving various mysteries encountered around their campus. It was directed by Masakazu Hashimoto, known for his work on several Doraemon films, who aimed to blend the conventions of a school-life drama with episodic mystery elements.
The character designs were originally created by Namaniku ATK and adapted for animation by Asako Nishida. P.A.Works maintained their signature aesthetic, featuring detailed background art and a polished, lyrical animation style that defined the studio's mid-2010s output. While the series was praised for its technical production and the central dynamic between the two protagonists, it received a mixed critical reception regarding the balance between its musical club setting and its episodic mystery narrative.
