The story takes place in Okinawa, where Haruka forms a beach volleyball pair with Kanata. Kanata, who couldn't handle the pressure put on her by her short height, had given up on beach volleyball already, but is convinced by Haruka to step back on the sand once again and aim for the junior tournament.

Where it came from
Harukana Receive began as a manga series by Nyoijizai, serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward starting in 2015. The story centers on Haruka Oozora and Kanata Higa, two cousins who form an unlikely beach volleyball partnership in Okinawa. The work was noted for its departure from traditional sports manga tropes, focusing on the specific dynamics of competitive beach volleyball while grounding the narrative in the personal histories and evolving friendship of its two protagonists.
The 2018 television anime adaptation was produced by studio C2C and directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka. The production team aimed to capture the vibrant, sun-drenched atmosphere of the Okinawa setting while maintaining fluid character animation during sports sequences. Upon release, the series was well-regarded for its visual presentation and its earnest portrayal of athletic growth, helping to broaden the appeal of niche sports-themed anime within the broader late-night television landscape.
