Hennako-chan is a black comedy series targeted at adult readers. The main character is an eccentric elementary school girl who has telekinetic powers that enable her to manipulate other people, animals, and even plants or objects by just staring at them. The series follows the helter-skelter daily lives of Hennako-chan and the people around her, including her family consisting of her very cracker-barrel parents, hot-to-trot elder sister, and a former stray dog, who are always thrown into frenzy by Hennako-chan's super-natural powers that expose their secrets.

Where it came from
Hennako-chan debuted in 2008 as an original net animation, serving as a promotional vehicle for the visual novel and manga series Henna Neko. The production emerged during a period when Japanese publishers increasingly utilized short-form streaming content to build brand awareness for their printed media. The animation was crafted to introduce audiences to the eccentric, whimsical humor characteristic of the source material, focusing on the titular character's unusual daily life and interactions.
The character design was intentionally stylized to mirror the distinct aesthetic of the original manga illustrations, favoring exaggerated expressions and a minimalist visual palette suited for web playback. Upon its release, the ONA was received as a niche curiosity within the otaku community. It is primarily regarded today as a representative example of early web-based promotional strategies used by smaller publishing imprints to gain traction in an expanding digital market.
