Hidamari Sketch Sae & Hiro Graduation

Hidamari Sketch Sae & Hiro Graduation was released in 2013 as a two-episode OVA conclusion to the long-running Hidamari Sketch series. Produced by studio Shaft and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, it serves as a final, bittersweet farewell to the characters Sae and Hiro, whose graduation from Yamabuki High School marks the end of their time in the iconic Hidamari Apartments. The narrative focuses on the quiet, sentimental transition period as the senior students prepare to move on, capturing the series' characteristic blend of slice-of-life introspection and gentle humor.

The visual identity of this OVA reflects the distinct aesthetic developed by Shaft throughout the franchise's adaptation of Ume Aoki’s original manga. The design emphasizes a soft, warm color palette and stylized character compositions that highlight the intimate camaraderie between the residents. Critics and fans largely received the release as a respectful and emotionally resonant capstone to the series, praising its ability to maintain the cozy, contemplative atmosphere that defined the show since its inception in 2007.
