Yuno, Miyako, Hiro, Sae and the rest of the denizens of the most fascinating piece of surreal estate in Japan are back. And they're still spurning the "A happens after B, happens after C" pattern so prevalent in the rest of the world. In fact, instead of just taking place after Yuno's first year at Yamabuki High, this season of Hidamari Sketch continues on both sides, around the edges and in-between. Filling in the details in an ever-expanding collage that's both avant-garde and slice of life!

Where it came from
Hidamari Sketch x 365 was released in 2008 as the second television anime season adapting Ume Aoki’s four-panel manga series. Produced by studio Shaft and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, the series continues the daily lives of students at the Yamabuki High School art department. The production is notable for its deliberate shift from a strictly chronological format to a non-linear narrative structure, which allows the episodes to reflect the cyclical, reflective nature of life at the Hidamari Apartments.
The aesthetic of the series is heavily defined by Shaft’s experimental visual style, which emphasizes abstract backgrounds, striking color palettes, and unconventional framing techniques to mirror the artistic interests of the protagonists. Upon its release, the series was well-received by critics and audiences for its balance of gentle humor and the distinct, highly stylized directorial choices that became a hallmark of the studio’s work during this period.
