Where it came from
hololiveERROR emerged in 2022 as a multimedia horror project developed by Cover Corp, the agency behind the Hololive production group. Designed to expand the agency's intellectual property beyond standard variety streaming, the project centered on an original narrative set within a cursed version of the fictional Tokinosora High School, utilizing the familiar avatars of various Hololive talents in a darker, psychological context.
The creative direction sought to blend the established character identities of virtual idols with traditional Japanese horror tropes. By releasing the content in an original net animation format, the studio aimed to leverage its existing fanbase's engagement with lore and mystery. While reception was mixed, the project served as a notable experiment in transmedia storytelling, demonstrating the studio's attempt to transition its virtual assets into scripted, genre-focused entertainment.
