Where it came from
HUGtto! Precure was produced by Toei Animation as the fifteenth installment in the long-running Pretty Cure magical girl franchise. Debuting in 2018, the series was created to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the brand, weaving together themes of motherhood, career aspirations, and the preservation of the future. The narrative centers on Hana Nono, who encounters a mysterious infant from the future, prompting a series of battles against the Criasu Corporation to protect the flow of time.
The character designs were handled by Toshie Kawamura, who aimed for a softer, more expressive aesthetic that aligned with the show's emotional core and focus on personal growth. The series was well-received by audiences and critics alike, frequently praised for its progressive storytelling and its nuanced approach to gender roles and societal expectations. It remains a standout entry in the franchise for its blend of traditional action sequences and thoughtful, character-driven drama.
