Iblard Jikan

Iblard Jikan was produced by Studio Ghibli in 2007 as a unique experimental project. It is based on the fantasy artwork of Naohisa Inoue, whose dreamlike, surreal depictions of the fictional land of Iblard served as a visual inspiration for the backdrop of the Ghibli film Whisper of the Heart. The studio sought to breathe life into Inoue's still paintings by adding subtle animation and atmospheric movement to his complex, colorful landscapes.

The project was directed by Naohisa Inoue himself, who aimed to immerse the viewer in the tranquil, painterly atmosphere of Iblard rather than follow a traditional narrative structure. The film is characterized by its lack of dialogue and plot, functioning instead as a series of moving vignettes accompanied by a calming musical score. Upon its release, it was received as a niche but technically fascinating aesthetic exploration, showcasing the studio's interest in artistic collaboration and digital animation techniques.
