Where it came from
The 2021 I★CHU anime series, produced by Studio Lay-duce under the creative oversight of Twin Engine, serves as an adaptation of the popular mobile rhythm game developed by Liber Entertainment. The project was conceived to translate the game's expansive cast of aspiring idols and their mentors into a serialized narrative format, capturing the high-energy spirit of the original digital experience within a structured television setting.
The series design focuses on the visual tropes typical of the idol-genre, emphasizing character-specific aesthetics and choreographed performances meant to resonate with fans of the source material. Upon its release, it was received as a companion piece to the long-running game, praised by the franchise's dedicated player base for bringing its internal lore to the screen while navigating the creative challenges of balancing a large ensemble cast across a limited number of episodes.
