ID: INVADED

ID: INVADED was produced by Studio NAZ and debuted in 2020 as an original science fiction anime series. The project was helmed by director Ei Aoki, known for his work on Fate/Zero, and featured scripts by novelist Otaro Maijo, who brought a unique, dense narrative structure to the concept. The series centers on a detective who enters the subconscious minds of serial killers in a digital landscape known as the Id Well, blending traditional detective procedural tropes with surreal, psychological science fiction aesthetics.

The visual identity of the series was defined by the intricate, fragmented character designs of Yuuki Kodama, which were adapted for animation to reflect the shattered nature of the mental worlds depicted on screen. Critics and audiences largely received the series favorably, noting its complex world-building and striking visual transitions between the harsh reality of the police procedural elements and the abstract, kaleidoscopic logic of the crime scenes. It stands as a notable example of late-2010s original Japanese animation that prioritizes cerebral storytelling and stylistic experimentation.
