Initial D BATTLE STAGE

Initial D: Battle Stage was produced in 2002 by OB Planning as a compilation OVA intended to satisfy the growing appetite for high-octane street racing content following the success of the Initial D anime series. The production serves as a retrospective, gathering the most iconic highway duels from the initial anime run and re-animating key sequences to showcase the evolution of digital techniques used to depict drift racing and engine performance.

The project highlights the distinct aesthetic of the franchise, which famously integrated early cel-shaded CGI vehicles with traditional animation to capture the technical nuances of touge racing. By focusing on the musical score, specifically the high-energy Eurobeat tracks that became synonymous with the series, the production team aimed to create an immersive audio-visual experience that emphasized the mechanical intensity of the racing scenes over the standard narrative exposition found in the primary television arcs.
