I''s

The I''s OVA series was produced by Studio Pierrot and released in 2002, serving as an adaptation of the popular manga series created by Masakazu Katsura. The narrative follows the romantic entanglements and adolescent anxieties of Ichitaka Seto, reflecting the hallmark blend of heartfelt sincerity and fan-service-heavy character design that defined Katsura’s work during the late 1990s and early 2000s. It emerged during a period when the manga-to-OVA pipeline was a primary vehicle for translating seinen and shonen romance titles to the screen, focusing on detailed anatomical styling and the atmospheric tension typical of the genre.

The character designs were crafted to emulate Katsura’s intricate, distinctive illustration style, which is noted for its high level of detail and specific aesthetic regarding feminine beauty. While the production aimed to satisfy the existing fanbase of the source material, the animation received mixed critical reception, with some viewers noting that the transition from the static, highly detailed manga panels to an animated format proved challenging to replicate perfectly. Despite this, the series remains a notable example of early 2000s romantic drama aesthetics in the direct-to-video anime market.
