I''s Pure

I''s Pure was released in 2005 as a six-part original video animation series produced by Studio Pierrot. It serves as an adaptation of the popular manga series I''s by Masakazu Katsura, which originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1997 to 2000. The transition to animation aimed to capture the grounded, emotional, and romantic tension that defined Katsura's signature character-focused storytelling during the late 1990s manga boom.

The character designs for the OVA were overseen to reflect Katsura's distinct aesthetic, characterized by meticulous attention to realistic human proportions and expressive facial features. While the animation style was met with mixed reviews from purists who felt it struggled to replicate the nuanced depth and kinetic charm of the original ink illustrations, it remains a notable example of mid-2000s romance-genre anime. The series is remembered largely for its role in expanding the reach of the I''s franchise and testing the limits of adapting long-form manga into a truncated OVA format.
