Betty, a devil-girl with the face of an angel and a heart of gold, falls in love with a human gangster, Danpei Kimogawa, when they meet during a rainstorm. They end up living together in Tokyo - though Danpei has trouble coping with his new in-laws, a witch and a demon, who like dropping by at inappropriate moments.
Betty has actually been sent to the human world on a mission to defeat the demon Lutan. While Betty continues her task, her skeletal grandmother sends nubile nymphs to tempt Danpei and see if he is suitable husband material.

Where it came from
Itoshi no Betty Mamonogatari was released in 1986 by Toei Video as a direct-to-video production, reflecting the burgeoning Original Video Animation (OVA) market of the mid-1980s. This format allowed animation studios to experiment with more adult-oriented themes and niche genres outside the constraints of television broadcast standards, resulting in a unique catalog of experimental titles that captured the creative restlessness of the era's Japanese animation industry.
The film serves as an adaptation of the manga series by author and illustrator Mitsuru Sugaya, known for his ability to blend comedic elements with supernatural or science-fiction tropes. The production carries the distinct aesthetic signatures of 1980s Toei animation, characterized by a vibrant, hand-inked cel style that prioritized expressive character designs over high-budget fluid motion. It is viewed by contemporary collectors as a representative artifact of the mid-80s home video boom, valued more for its stylistic nostalgia than its broad mainstream influence.
