Where it came from
JAA Meets Yokohama is a promotional short film produced by the Japan Art Association (JAA) to highlight the cultural landscape and urban aesthetic of the city of Yokohama. Created during a period of urban renewal and a push to bolster Yokohama's status as a center for international art and design, the film was designed to serve as a bridge between traditional Japanese artistic philosophy and contemporary city planning.
The film was directed with a minimalist, observational approach, focusing on the architectural dialogue between historical sites and modern developments. It garnered moderate attention within the Japanese cinematic and design circles for its evocative cinematography, which sought to frame the city not merely as a location, but as an active participant in an ongoing, multi-generational creative project.
