Je t'aime

Je t'aime was produced in 2010 by the acclaimed animation studio Production I.G as a collaborative project with the Japanese rock band Glay. Created to celebrate the band's 15th anniversary, the short film functions as a music video for their single of the same name. Directed by Mamoru Oshii, the film marks a distinct departure from his more somber, philosophically dense works, leaning instead into a poignant, dialogue-free aesthetic that emphasizes visual storytelling.

The character designs were handled by Atsushi Takeuchi, who sought to capture a sense of melancholic intimacy in a post-apocalyptic setting. By centering the narrative on the relationship between a girl and her dog, the animation team focused on fluid, emotive character movement to compensate for the lack of spoken lines. Upon its release, the project was recognized for its high production values and its successful integration of indie-rock sensibilities with the technical prowess of a major animation studio.
