Where it came from
Jewelpet Twinkle☆: Hohoemi no Niji ni Dokki☆Doki! was released in 2013 as a special animated project linked to the Jewelpet franchise, a collaborative creation between Sanrio and Sega Toys. Produced by Studio Comet, this special served as an extension of the popular television series, catering to a demographic of young children who had become familiar with the magical world of Jewel Land and its cast of animal-like characters endowed with gemstone-themed powers.
The animation style and narrative direction were consistent with the established visual language of the Jewelpet series, emphasizing vibrant, pastel aesthetics and themes of friendship and personal growth. Studio Comet, which oversaw much of the franchise's animation during this era, focused on maintaining a high-energy, whimsical tone that aligned with the toy line's marketing goals. The project was received as a lighthearted expansion for dedicated fans, reinforcing the longevity and cross-media appeal of the Jewelpet brand at the height of its popularity in Japan.
