Jiandao Di Yi Xian

Jiandao Di Yi Xian, also known as The First Line of Defense, was produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures as a narrative-driven ONA. It emerged from the rapidly expanding Chinese animation industry, reflecting a period where platforms like Tencent Video sought to bolster their libraries with original high-concept stories to capture the interest of domestic digital-native audiences.

The production leans into modern aesthetic sensibilities common in contemporary Chinese web-animation, emphasizing character-focused storytelling and serialized pacing. While the design language of the show aligns with typical Tencent-backed projects—prioritizing fluid action sequences and stylized character models—it serves as a notable entry in their portfolio for its attempt to integrate thriller and suspense elements within a traditional animation framework.
