Jingisukan no Jin-kun

Jingisukan no Jin-kun, or 'Genghis Khan Jin-kun,' was released in 2017 as a series of short ONA episodes produced by Production I.G. The project was conceived as a promotional initiative to boost the popularity of Hokkaido’s signature mutton barbecue dish, Genghis Khan, by anthropomorphizing the meal into a character. The aesthetic utilizes a minimalist, lighthearted animation style, positioning Jin-kun as a mascot to appeal to a younger audience and international tourists visiting the region.

The character design centers on a fluffy, sheep-like figure intended to be endearing rather than culinary, which serves as a playful subversion of the dish's subject matter. While the series maintains a niche status, it achieved its goal of serving as a regional brand ambassador. The reception was localized primarily to the Hokkaido area and the niche community of regional mascot enthusiasts, serving as a curious example of corporate advertising transitioning into character-driven digital content.
