Where it came from
Joshi Kausei, a television anime series produced by Studio Seven, premiered in 2019 as a direct adaptation of the silent manga series by Ken Wakai. The series was designed as a brief, experimental 'short-form' anime, capturing the daily lives of three high school girls through a unique perspective that entirely eschews dialogue. By focusing purely on visual storytelling and situational comedy, the adaptation aims to translate the manga's minimalist aesthetic and slice-of-life charm into a rhythmic, episodic format.
The production process prioritized the faithful recreation of Wakai’s character designs, which are known for their clean lines and emphasis on subtle facial expressions. Upon its release, the series was noted for its departure from traditional narrative structures, catering specifically to audiences who appreciate quiet, observational storytelling. It stands as a notable example of contemporary efforts to adapt niche, atmospheric manga into concise, avant-garde animation formats.
