Joshikousei Nobunaga-chan!!

Joshikousei Nobunaga-chan!! was produced by TMS Entertainment and released in 2010 as a series of original net animations. The project emerged during a period of experimentation with short-form digital storytelling in the Japanese animation industry, utilizing a creative premise that blended historical figure Oda Nobunaga with the trope of a modern-day high school girl. The series was designed to be consumed in quick, episodic bursts, reflecting the growing trend of viewers engaging with content through online platforms rather than traditional broadcast television.

The character design and stylistic direction were aimed at a demographic familiar with light novel aesthetics and comedy-centric anime. By subverting the serious nature of a Sengoku-era warlord, the creators sought to provide a humorous commentary on character archetypes while leaning into the absurdity of the historical-reincarnation subgenre. Upon its release, the project was received as a niche experiment within the TMS catalog, recognized primarily for its novelty in applying the 'gender-bent' historical figure trope to an online-exclusive format.
