Where it came from
Joshi Luck! was released in 2019 by Studio Bunny Walker as an original video animation, or OVA, intended to capture the lighthearted, slice-of-life energy that defined independent Japanese animation projects of the late 2010s. Produced during a period when boutique studios were increasingly finding niche audiences through digital distribution, the project sought to prioritize character-driven storytelling over high-action spectacle. It served as a showcase for the studio's preference for soft, pastel-toned aesthetics and expressive, fluid character animation.
The creative direction for Joshi Luck! reflects the collaborative efforts of the studio's core animation team, who aimed to blend contemporary youth culture themes with a traditional comedic narrative structure. By focusing on mundane, relatable scenarios, the creators attempted to build an intimate experience for the viewer. Upon its release, the work was received as a modest, charming addition to the OVA landscape, noted primarily by animation enthusiasts for its clean lines and the studio's distinctive, breezy approach to world-building.
