Where it came from
Journey Crisis! is a promotional original net animation released by miHoYo in 2021 as a tie-in for the Honkai Impact 3rd mobile game. The short was created to celebrate the game's ongoing narrative expansion and served as a comedic, meta-fictional departure from the typically dark and serious tone of the core storyline, focusing on the character development of the Valkyries within the St. Freya Academy setting.
The production utilized a whimsical, chibi-inspired art style distinct from the game's standard 3D rendering. By framing the narrative as a behind-the-scenes look at the characters' lives, the animation was designed to foster a lighter connection with the player base. It was received as a lighthearted expansion of the franchise's world-building, emphasizing the camaraderie between the central cast members during a brief respite from their established conflict.
