Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem—his childhood friend Rika has turned into a curse and won't leave him alone. Since Rika is no ordinary curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn how to combat curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough in time to confront the curse that haunts him?

Where it came from
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was produced by Studio MAPPA and released in Japanese theaters in December 2021 as a prequel film to the popular anime series. It serves as an adaptation of Gege Akutami's 2017 manga volume of the same name, which was originally titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. The project was conceived to introduce audiences to the world of sorcery and curses through the story of Yuta Okkotsu, a character mentioned in the main series but not yet fully explored, providing vital emotional and narrative context for the events of the television series.
The film was directed by Sunghoo Park, who sought to translate Akutami's distinct aesthetic into a high-octane cinematic experience. The production team focused on fluid action sequences and a melancholic, character-driven tone to reflect the tragic romance between Yuta and Rika Orimoto. Upon release, the film received widespread critical praise for its animation quality and emotional resonance, quickly becoming a significant commercial success within the global anime market and solidifying the franchise's standing in contemporary animation.
