Junkers Come Here: Pilot Film

Junkers Come Here was originally produced in 2001 by Triangle Staff as a short pilot film, serving as an experimental precursor to a feature-length adaptation of the popular manga by Naoto Tsushima. The project emerged during a period of significant transition for the studio, which sought to capture the whimsical yet melancholic tone of the original work, following a young girl who discovers a talking dog with the ability to grant wishes.

The pilot is noted for its distinctive visual direction, which emphasizes a grounded, slice-of-life aesthetic typical of early 2000s Japanese animation. While the full-length feature film eventually arrived in 1995—predating this specific 2001 promotional iteration—this pilot remains a point of interest for animation historians who study the studio's developmental process and the specific aesthetic choices made to translate Tsushima’s character designs into a motion medium.
