Toei Animation announced a new short anime on Friday titled "Jurassic!" that will debut streaming on YouTube in mid-August. Most of the staff for the anime are comprised of the younger staff at Toei Animation. The anime is also the first in a series of new projects for the studio featuring the younger staff. The Real-Size Koseibutsu Zukan (Real-Size Extinct Creatures Picture Book) book by Ken Tsuchiya is inspiring the anime, and Tsuchiya is serving as the anime's "extinct creatures supervisor."

Where it came from
Jurassic! was produced by Toei Animation in 2019 as a standalone special designed to celebrate the studio's legacy through a unique intersection of artistic styles. The project emerged from a desire to showcase the creative versatility of Toei’s animation team, moving away from long-running serialized narratives to focus on a high-concept, self-contained aesthetic exploration of prehistoric themes combined with modern digital techniques.
The visual direction for the special prioritized experimental character designs and fluid, kinetic movement, departing from the studio’s traditional shonen tropes to embrace a more avant-garde sensibility. Upon its release, it was noted primarily by animation enthusiasts and industry scholars for its technical execution, serving as a boutique showcase of Toei's internal talent rather than a mass-market commercial release.
