The original anime Just Because! focuses on subtly portraying the feelings of a group of high school students nearing graduation. Near the end of second semester at third year, when students have very little time in high school left, and are just waiting for graduation, the appearance of a new transfer student begins to change what remains of their high school lives just as they were about to graduate.

Where it came from
Just Because! was produced by studio PINE JAM and released in 2017 as an original television anime series. It emerged during a period of experimentation within the slice-of-life genre, attempting to capture the poignant, bittersweet transition period of students in their final semester of high school. The series stands out for its grounded approach to adolescent social dynamics, intentionally avoiding common tropes to focus on the nuanced communication gaps between its central characters.
The series is notable for the original character designs by Kiseki Himura, a manga artist who brought a distinct visual clarity to the project. The narrative was written by Hajime Kamoshida, known for his work on 'Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai,' which heavily influenced the show's focus on interpersonal tension and emotional realism. Upon its release, the work was received as a contemplative, understated piece that prioritized atmosphere and character development over rapid-fire plot progression.
