Where it came from
Kabukibu! was produced by Studio DEEN and released in 2017 as an adaptation of the light novel series written by Yuuri Eda. The project was conceived as a lighthearted coming-of-age story centered on a high school student’s passionate ambition to form a kabuki club, bridging the gap between traditional Japanese theatrical performance and modern youth subculture.
The character designs were handled by Majiro, who adapted the original illustrations by Hiroko Yamasaki to fit the aesthetic requirements of a contemporary school-life anime. Upon its release, the series was noted for its sincere efforts to introduce classical performing arts to a wider audience, though it generally received a modest reception from viewers who found the pace and tone to be a gentle, niche exploration of extracurricular hobbies.
