Kai: Legend of the Icy Lake

Kai: Legend of the Icy Lake is a 2017 computer-animated adventure film produced by Wizart Animation. The project was conceived as an expansion of the studio's thematic exploration of traditional folklore, drawing stylistic and narrative inspiration from classic Slavic fairy tales. It was developed to reach international family audiences by blending familiar motifs of heroic quests and elemental magic with modern 3D rendering techniques.

The film was directed by Maxim Volkov, who sought to create a visually distinct icy aesthetic that contrasted the sharp, crystalline environments of the titular lake with the expressive, stylized character designs. Upon its release, the production was noted for its technical ambition within the Russian animation industry, though it received a mixed critical reception regarding its pacing and narrative complexity compared to larger global studio counterparts.
