Provenance

Where it came from

The Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara OVA was released in 2014 by Hoods Entertainment as a supplemental episode to the television anime adaptation of Takehisa Toyoda's light novel series. Following the conclusion of the main broadcast, this OVA was produced to offer fans an additional self-contained narrative that maintains the series' characteristic blend of supernatural romance and comedy, focusing on Sota Hatate and the classmates who perceive the 'flags' representing various life outcomes.

The production sought to expand upon the light novel's visual aesthetic, which utilizes color-coded icons to represent character destinies. The episode was designed to capture the core themes of the source material while utilizing the distinct character designs established for the television series. It serves as a dedicated piece for enthusiasts of the franchise, reflecting the industry trend of the mid-2010s to release direct-to-video content to sustain engagement after a series' initial television run.
