Kanojo, Okarishimasu 2nd Season: Date Movie

Kanojo, Okarishimasu, or Rent-a-Girlfriend, began as a manga series by Reiji Miyajima in 2017 before being adapted into an anime series by TMS Entertainment. The Date Movie ONA, released in 2022 during the production window of the second season, serves as a supplemental promotional piece. It was designed to maintain audience engagement during the gap between the first and second broadcast seasons, utilizing the established character designs of Kanna Hirayama to lean into the romantic comedy aesthetic that defines the series.

The production sought to capture the specific dynamic of the protagonist, Kazuya Kinoshita, and his interactions with the rental girlfriend, Chizuru Mizuhara. By focusing on the intimacy of a simulated date, the creators aimed to highlight the central irony of the narrative—the blurred lines between professional service and genuine emotional attachment. Upon release, the short was received by fans as a lighthearted expansion of the core series, serving as a character-driven vignette that reinforced the show's visual identity.
